Our Berringer Meteorite Crater story: My wife asked me why I made this piece. I haven't been there and had never even heard of it until earlier this year. I am an avid reader of science fiction and the crater was featured in a book that I read. I did a little research on it and thought it was just so cool that I had to make a carving of it. This is one of my wife's favorite pieces as it is very thick and lends itself to not only the elevation rising around the edges of the piece, but also the depth of the crater below the top edge elevation of the piece. 
 
This carved wooden map of the Berringer Meteorite Crater in Arizona shown here in Cherry features the location name and coordinates of the geographic center. This is one of the few projects where we used Lidar data to produce the carving. What does that mean? It means that the geographic information is super high-resolution resulting in a very detailed carving. I definitely got my GIS geek on with piece!
