Our Maui story:
This is really my wife's story as I have not been to Maui yet. She first traveled to Hawaii in the 1990s for what she thought was her once in a lifetime trip to the state of Hawaii. She chose to visit Maui as it seemed more laid back than Oahu but not as remote as Kaua'i. She tells me that the minute she stepped off of the airplane she felt that she was in paradise. The warm breezes made it the perfect climate for the hotels to not have to have heat or air conditioning. She watched the sunrise from the top of Haleakala, biked down the side of the volcano, and drank frozen cocktails while friendly birds literally landed on her outstretched finger perch for them. She drove the Road to Hana with its hairpin turns while listening to a tourist cassette tape which told her where to stop for the best banana bread and for swimming under a waterfall. She went snorkeling and scuba diving for the first time which inspired her to get her scuba certification. She tried new foods at a luau and in the restaurants of Lahaina and watched a fire show. What she thought was a one-time trip sparked her lifelong passion for the Aloha State. Our hearts are with those still trying to rebuild from the devestation from the wildfires on Maui.
